The university's Office of Graduate Studies in Arts and Sciences administers admissions, recruiting, registration, graduate aid, curriculum policy, and graduation for these select programs. The Faculty of Arts & Sciences offers terminal masters degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Computational Operations Research (a specialization within Computer Science), Psychology and Public Policy; and doctoral degrees in American Studies, Anthropology, Applied Science, Clinical Psychology (Psy.D. degree as part of a four university consortium), Computer Science, History, and Physics.

The village of Werowocomoco was the residence of the Virginia Algonquin chief Powhatan and the political center of the Powhatan chiefdom during the early 1600s. The Werowocomoco Research Group is studying the history and physical remains of the site.
